6 February 2025
Principal’s Report.
Welcome to Emerald State High School for 2025! I hope that you had a most wonderful festive season, soaking up the company of dear friends and family. I am very excited to return as Principal of Emerald State High School and to lead the Staff, the Students and the Community in providing the best possible educational service and to ensure that we work together, so that students have purpose and direction.
As a collective, we should be very proud of our 2024 achievements whether they be academic, cultural, or sporting. May we work together to Be Polite, Be Prepared and to Participate here at Emerald State High School.
Staffing
On behalf of the staff, I would like to welcome back students and their families who were part of our school community in 2024 and extend a warm welcome to those new students and their families. We know that you will enjoy your time at Emerald State High School.
We must welcome back the returning staff to Emerald State High School. We must also welcome a number of new staff members to our Emerald State High School family for 2025.
A huge thank you to staff also who returned to school prior to students, to undertake some professional development that aligned with our 2025 school improvement priorities. I was very impressed with the staff’s work during the week, to engage with differentiating curriculum and pedagogy, wellbeing and engagement, positive culture for learning, analysing data, setting up classrooms and developing a familiarity with the students that will be in their care.
Emerald State High School Vision
Our Vision – At Emerald SHS, we live by the motto "Every Student Has Success", and we seek to provide a wide range of quality learning experiences within a safe and caring learning environment. Every child is precious and important, each with their own dreams and aspirations for the future. We believe in supporting our students to achieve their dreams and to maximise their potential to become our future creative innovators and global citizens; to achieve lives of meaning and purpose.
Our Values – Our values are that we are “Polite, Prepared and we Participate”.
Emerald State High School Improvement Priority 2025
In 2025 we will ensure success for every student by increasing engagement and reducing defiance and truancy. This will be achieved through High Expectations, Capability Development and Quality Assurance.

ESHS P&C Meetings
The ESHS P&C meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month in the school’s Resource Centre from 5:30pm – 7:00pm.
All parents and interested community members of ESHS are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Our first meeting for 2025 will be held on Thursday, 13th February.
ESHS P&C meetings are a wonderful way for you to be involved in your child’s education, keep up-to-date with what’s happening at the school and make new friends.
At the meetings, various reports are presented, including ESHS’s Principal’s monthly report, detailing what’s been happening at our school. Parents who attend our meetings often comment how valuable they find this information.
As a member of ESHS P&C, your contribution to the P&C can be as large or as small as you can manage.
Remember, your ongoing support is invaluable!
ESHS P&C 2025 AGM
ESHS P&C will hold their AGM for 2025 on Thursday, 13th March at 5:30pm.
In 2025, ESHS P&C will be looking for a vice president. In the past, the vice president has supported the P&C with social media and grant writing. Please consider whether this position would interest you. ESHS P&C is very supportive and our current executive committee members are available to offer support for this position.

From the SRC.
The Student Representative Council with the help of the other junior and senior leaders (SLC) has started off strong with a calendar of events already planned and Valentine’s Day our top priority. Once again, we have an amazing group of senior and junior leaders this year who support not only the student body, but local, national and international charities.
The first event will be held in the next couple of weeks is Valentine’s Day. The SRC and leaders will be selling both ribbon and felt flowers, food and of course cards to serenade their loved ones for $2. Students can purchase any of the gifts in advance next week from the Tuckshop Courtyard and Sails area both lunches.
The Student Leadership Council plays an important role in the school running fundraisers, as well as student activities including the Colour Smash for Mental Health Week in Term 4 and the talent competition Shines in Term 2. The SRC also runs house competitions such the CQ Pet Rescue Challenge in Term 2 and the Neighbourhood Centre’s Alms Appeal at Christmas.
The students in the Council run the meetings each Tuesday First Break in C8 and coordinate all the events and financial quotes when necessary. This is a huge responsibility and provides students with the opportunity to develop their leadership skills. All students from all year levels can attend these meetings and raise any issues that they feel are important as the SLC helps create a link between staff and students concerns. It would great to see all students coming to a meeting at some time during the year.
This year Anna Betts is coordinating the Junior SLC, while I am continuing to work with the Senior SLC executives. All leaders are being inducted Thursday Week 2.
