25 July 2025
Principal’s Report.
I trust that everyone is well and that they have had a great start to Term 3. I want to start by thanking our community for a calm start to Term 3. It has been pleasing to see the overwhelming majority of our students meeting and exceeding our expectations for learning.
Term 3
A reminder that there are lots of things happening early this term. Our Year 11 Leadership Camp is taking place in August. Subject Selection Information Evening took place on Tuesday afternoon and was a great opportunity for carers and students to learn about our subject offerings and pathways. Parent-Teacher Interviews are on the Tuesday 29 July (Week 3), our NAIDOC Elders' Luncheon is on in Week 3. SET Plan interviews are on for Year 10s between Monday 25 August and Friday 29 August, there is a Student Free Day on Friday 5 September and, of course, our Year 12 Formal occurs on Thursday 11 September. Term 3 is always big and busy!
Facilities
Over the holidays the contractors who constructed the cover over the Basketball Courts returned to make them safe and useable following the storm damage that occurred in November 2024. I want to thank our P&C and QTU Members who lobbied our local member to expediate the rectification of this vital facility. I also want to thank our colleagues at Emerald North State School for allowing us to use their facilities to continue teaching and learning in HPE.
You will also notice that our oval is being upgraded as part of the ‘Go For Gold’ Grant. The upgrade will greatly enhance our HPE program.
Attendance
A reminder that regular attendance is the key to success with the following attendance rates providing a guide to the impact on academic success.
- 95% attendance = 1 day a month (minimal impact)
- <90% attendance = 1 day a fortnight (noticeable impact)
- <85% attendance = 1.5 days a fortnight (very significant impact)
- <80% attendance = 1 day a week (critical impact)
I hope that you have a fabulous fortnight

From the Interact Club.
Emerald High’s Interact Group, one of the largest Rotary groups in the region, has had a busy holiday break and start to the term.
During the holidays, four of our members went on the Windeward Bound, an authentically built tall ship, for a 10 day voyage from Gladstone to Mackay. After a short delay leaving Gladstone, the sailors made their way north. The trip involved rope competitions, navigation and other leadership challenges. On Day 8 the intrepid sailors, which also included 6 other Interact members aged 14-18 from other clubs, had to sail the vessels themselves. They were responsible for the navigation, helms control and even waking themselves up for watch. The trip was an amazing experience for all students involved.

A massive thanks to the Rotary Clubs of Gladstone, Gladstone South, Gladstone Port Curtis and Emerald for sponsoring our club members and making this possible.
Interact also managed the gates at the July Rodeo, as well as cleaning up the next day. This time thankfully nobody came in to grab the cans from us before we got there, so the club now has enough money to have a water pump installed in a Cambodian school this year.
We also, on 19th July, moved our Christmas in July event from the Sunrise Hall to the Emerald Rotary Park. This turned out to be a fantastic change with the Rotary train being a big hit with the small and larger kids at heart. There was a great turn out and all the profits will be passed onto the Neighbourhood Centre.
This was only the first couple of weeks in July and this term is proving to be very busy with Interact helping Bites with wait staffing and of course there will be another Movie Marathon this term. Any interested students who want to join Interact can come to our Wednesday FB meetings – held every odd week.
